Asbestos Popcorn Ceiling Testing in Clovis, CA

Asbestos popcorn ceiling testing in Clovis, CA is the first step on any older ceiling, and we ask for a lab result before we scrape. If it is clean, we remove the texture; if it is positive, we help you hand the job to a certified, registered abatement contractor.

  • Test first, scrape second
  • Clear hand-off if positive
  • Repair and finish after clearance

Licensed and insured, and many years in business serving the greater Clovis area.

Two roads, one test

Clean result

Good news for the schedule, and we book the scrape, then repair, finish and paint at your pace.

Positive result

The job changes hands, and a contractor with the right license and registration removes the material, and the area must be cleared before we come back.

How testing works

  1. Check the age. Popcorn from before the mid-1980s is the one to test. Angi* says homes built in or before the 1980s could have asbestos.
  2. Take a small sample. EPA recommends a trained, accredited inspector take it when you plan work that would disturb the material (EPA). CPSC lists accredited labs under the NVLAP program (CPSC).
  3. Send it to a lab. The lab reports whether asbestos is in the material.
  4. Pick your road. Clean means we can scrape. Positive means a licensed abatement pro.

What a test costs

Guides disagree, and CSLB says certified consultants may charge about $200 (CSLB guide), and Angi says almost $500 (Angi*).

Ask the lab for a price before you send a sample.

If it tests positive

Registration with Cal/OSHA is required for asbestos work of 100 square feet or more, and an unrestricted registration needs a C-22 license (Cal/OSHA). A licensed contractor without that certification may bid but a certified, registered contractor must do the work.

Ads for asbestos removal must carry the CSLB license number and the Cal/OSHA registration number (CSLB guide), and use that to check any company, and look them up at CSLB.

Regulated jobs also need notice to the Valley Air District at least 10 working days before work (district bulletin), and the district has its own rule on asbestos (Rule 4002). Your abatement contractor handles that.

After clearance, we can return for drywall repair, retexturing and painting, and start from the home page if you want the overview.

Leaving it alone is allowed

EPA says asbestos material in good condition that will not be disturbed is usually best left alone (EPA), and if you do not need to change the ceiling, you may not need to remove it. If you are selling or remodeling, test first and decide after; read the full asbestos guide.

No. A certified, Cal/OSHA-registered contractor must (Cal/OSHA).

Can I scrape small areas myself?
